1958 Back-O'-The-Card: Don Larsen

"When Don was with Baltimore in 1954, he lost 20 games. Two years later with the Yankees, he blossomed into one of the finest hurlers in the American League. In 1955 he won 9 games and in 1956 posted an 11-5 mark. Don hurled a perfect game in the 1956 World Series.
He is also one of the top hitting pitchers around."

1958 Back-O'-The-Card: Tony Kubek

"The latest of the Yankees' prize pupils, Tony was Casey Stengel's 'swing' man last year, playing wherever he was needed on a particular day. He stayed up around the .300 mark all season long. Tony was honored as the American League's Rookie of the Year in 1957.
His .331 average at Denver in 1956 convinced the Yankee brass he was ready."

1958 Back-O'-The-Card: Darrell Johnson

"Judging by Darrell's minor batting, he's ready for the majors.
In 1950 at Marshall, he hit .329. Working his way up, he went to Denver in 1955 and has been one of their top batters for three years. In 1955 at Denver, Darrell led American Association catchers in putouts and assists.
Darrell's dad was a minor league first baseman."

1958 Back-O'-The-Card: Elston Howard

"Elston, who has spent three seasons in Yankee livery, has a sure sense for the dramatic. He powered a terrific home run at Ebbets Field in the 1956 World Series, and his four-bagger last year sent a Series game into extra innings.
Elston was the International League MVP at Toronto in 1954. A three-position man last season, he prefers catching."

1958 Back-O'-The-Card: Ralph Houk

During his playing days, Ralph was one of a select group of Yankees to play on all five of Casey Stengel's five straight World Champions. Although he never played regularly at the big league level, the Yankee brass was so impressed with his leadership and knowledge of baseball he was placed in command of New York's top farm club at Denver. In three seasons guiding the Bears, Ralph did much to develop the careers of such young Yankees as Tony Kubek, Bobby Richardson, Norm Siebern, Ralph Terry and Marv Throneberry.
The Major returns to the Stadium this year as first base coach. Nobody doubts he will be managing a major league club in the future.

1958 Back-O'-The-Card: Bob Grim

"Bob is one of Brooklyn's great gifts to the Bronx. Casey Stengel picked him out of the Yankee rookie school in 1954, and he has been a favorite at Yankee Stadium ever since. His specialty is a good sinker ball. Bob was the ace of the Yankee bullpen last year.
He tends his father's bar during the off-season."

1958 Back-O'-The-Card: Whitey Ford

"Even though he has never been a 20-game winner, Whitey is regarded as one of the most skilled pitchers in baseball. He has an enviable 5-3 record in World Series play, and in 1955, he pitched the most complete games and tied a record with two consecutive 1-hitters.
He's one of the coolest workmen on the mound in baseball."
