1961 Back-O'-The-Card: Bud Daley

"Bud, who started out in American Legion ball, broke into organized baseball with Bakersfield in 1951. A strikeout artist, he fanned 198 men at Cedar Rapids in 1952.
He earned his first trial with Cleveland after starting 33 games, winning 18 and striking out 118 at Sacramento in 1955. He was a relief specialist for the Tribe last year."

May 14: Pitches five scoreless innings in relief to top Orioles, 2-1.
May 23: 4-hits Chicago in 16-0 win. Has perfect game going until 6th.
July 25: Dazzles Bosox hitters with knuckler to win, 3-0, on four hits.
August 11: Bud sets new Kansas City win mark with 13th victory, over Cleveland.
"Buddy beat the Orioles five straight times last season."

"The ace southpaw will be trying to lower his ERA this year after it jumped up in 1960. Bud still finished seventh in the American League in strikeouts.
Bud led the Three-Eye League in strikeouts in 1952. He had the best winning percentage (.917) in the American Association in 1956. He pitched in All-Star Games in 1959 and 1960."
