"Ditmar began pitching for a livelihood with Kewanee, Illinois, in the old Central Association in 1948. The parent Philadelphia Athletics moved him up quickly to Savannah and then Ottawa in the International League.
He was with the A's for part of the 1954 season and then moved along with the franchise to Kansas City for 1955 and 1956. He was traded with Bobby Shantz to New York for 1957 and has a 30-20 record with the Yankees in three full seasons.
He had his finest major league season last year, and if he continues to improve will help the Yankees to once more reach the baseball top."
