"Bob is no stranger to Kansas City fans. Before either Bob or K.C. joined the majors, he was their star outfielder. In 1950 he hit .304 and the following season he had a torrid .344 mark with 108 R.B.I.'s.

"Cerv came up to the Yankees in 1954 after a .317 year at Kansas City in the American Association in '53. He turned in creditable performances of .260, .341 and .304 with New York before the Kansas City A's obtained him. Bob got a pinch-hit home run for the Yankees in the 1955 World Series.

He covers a lot of ground in the outfield for a big fellow."

"Art struggled in the Yankee chain for years before getting his major league opportunity. From 1948 to 1956, he compiled a 47-51 record before making his debut with Kansas City. Art joined the Orioles in 1957.

In high school, Art was a football, baseball and basketball star. In the winter he attends New Haven Teachers College."

"Art prepped for the majors last year by hurling for Vancouver. The Pacific Coast League is a hitter's league, but Art was touched for only nine homers in 166 innings. That shows that he can make the batters hit what he wants to throw and can nick the corners of the plate.

He started 22 games and relieved in 13 others last year. One of Art's two shutouts was a 3-hitter.

Art was a football, basketball and baseball star in high school."

"Andy did not get into too many games last season and as a result his average slipped from his fine .286 of the year before.

He's been with the Yankees since 1953 and has participated in four World Series. In '55 Andy was tied for the American League crown with 11 triples and led third sackers in putouts and assists.

Andy's hobby is skeet shooting."

1960 Back-O'-The-Card: Clete Boyer

"The Boyer family has a tradition of raising fine ball players. Clete's brother Ken is the outstanding Cardinal third baseman, and another brother, Cloyd, played for the Athletics and Cards in 1958.

In 1958, Clete showed his stuff at Richmond where he hit a solid .284 with 22 homers and 71 runs batted in. As a fielder, he is among the tops in the game- he led the International League in putouts and assists in '58."

"The youngest of the three baseball-playing brothers, Cletis is doing his part to keep the Boyer family name in baseball headlines. His brother Ken is the Cardinal 3rd baseman, and Cloyd, one-time Athletics hurler, won 10 and lost 14 for Indianapolis last season.

Cletis plays the infield and is a long ball hitter, although his .175 batting average last year does not show it. He split the season between New York and Richmond in the International League, where he hit .224 in 64 games. Boyer clubbed 22 home runs in 1958 for Richmond and drove in 71 runs.

He usually plays third base and is a former bonus player with Kansas City."

"A proven long bell belter in the minors, John did not see much action with the Yankees in 1959. On June 3 of last year, John belted his first big-time homer.

The year before at Denver he hit .291 with 19 homers and 96 RBI's. In 1955 he was homer king of the Eastern League when he banged 34 out of the park for Binghamton.

John is a hunter in the off-season."

"Being a fill-in for Yogi Berra and Elston Howard as a third-string Yankee catcher would not be very encouraging for most young players, but Blanchard has been working for this for too many years to let up now.

He has been the property of the Yankees since he entered pro baseball in 1951 with the old Kansas City Blues, then a Yankee farm. He also has caught and played outfield for Binghamton, Joplin and Denver.

Last year was his first full season with the New Yorkers and he got into 49 games. He is considered a very capable receiver who can handle any Yankee pitcher well."

New York, September 16, 1955 - "Trailing by one-half game, the New York Yankees today met the Boston Red Sox in a 'do-or-die' attempt to recapture the league lead and win the American League Pennant.

At the end of the eighth inning, Boston trailed by 2-0. In the top of the ninth, the Red Sox rallied and scored three runs to go ahead, 3-2. It looked like it was over for the New York Yankees.

In the last of the ninth, Hank Bauer hit a homer, tieing the score, 3-3. Yogi came to bat with the stands in an uproar. Always happy to swing at the first pitch, he swung at the first ball ... and how! The ball sailed into the right field stands, and the Yankees won, 4-3."

"In the minors, Luis hurled two no-hitters. Then a sore arm kept him out of baseball in 1952 and '53. His arm healed, Luis' 16 wins earned him a promotion to the Cardinals."

"When Luis joined the Pirates last season and posted wins over the Dodgers, Phillies and Cardinals, the Pirates tabbed him for big things in 1957.

Luis has been in baseball since 1948 and in his sophomore year won 21 games for Greensboro. His 228 strikeouts placed him as one of the minor league whiff aces. After traveling in the St. Louis farm system for seven years he got his chance in '55 with the Cards and in '56 came to the Pirates."
