When either Mickey Mantle or Roger Maris needs a day off, this outfielder out of Ole Miss has both the speed and throwing arm to be a reliable substitute. When Jack was added to the Yankees' World Series roster last year, he was an acceptable replacement for the injured Bob Cerv. Seeing action in three of the five games of New York's triumph over Cincinnati, he was a defensive replacement for Hector Lopez in Game 1, for Mantle in Game 3 and for Maris in Game 5.

1962 Back-O'-The-Card: Joe Pepitone (1962 rookie card)
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Joe could be a Yankee star of the future. Last year at New York's Amarillo club of the Texas League, he led the team with 21 home runs and a .525 slugging percentage, while batting .316 with 87 RBIs. The Yankees are also greatly impressed with his defensive skill at first base and center field.
